Smile Night time collection and return at Tampa

Has anyone got experience of late night collecting and returning hire cars with Alamo at Tampa. We land at 21:00hrs so am expecting to be at car collection around 22:00hrs.

Is it on airport or off and can anyone see any drawbacks with this.

    Thanks in advance

No drawbacks - we collected a car from Alamo, Tampa around 11 p.m one night - these places are 24/7 and are fully geared up for people arriving at all hours.

Alamo are on the airport, if you are booked, as I hope you are, with US Car Hire sign up for the Alamo Save Time and you can use the kiosks unless you have chosen a car from the smaller range. Can't quite remember but believe the Compact and Economy cars are excluded but you are OK from the Intermediate upwards.

There are several threads on this Forum about using Alamo kiosks - I can't speak from personal experience as we always chose a Compact car!

Many thanks Clare R, I have not yet booked but will be using US car hire as I have for the last 3 years. I used the Alamo save time last year at Sanford and it worked super. I am planning on a 7 seat suv which looks like being a Tahoe, would really like a Suburban but I don't suppose there is any way of requesting this at Tampa... unless anyone knows how?

Hi Clare, I noticed you said Alamo were on airport but I have just been reading a guide to the Tampa area which says Alamo are off airport but I can't find a publication date so I suppose it could be out of date

Alamo are in airport at Tampa. They used to be off airport a few years ago but are not any more. Your guide sounds like it's a bit out of date now.

Cheers for the info. As you say the book must be out of date.

If you aren't landing till that late why not save a days car hire and stay at an airport hotel overnight and drive off refreshed in the morning. At that time of night don't forget your body will think it is 3 in the morning. You then don't need to worry so much if there is a delay on the flight?

Hi Steph, that was our original plan as we are over for 15 nights and had booked a night in the airport hotel. However when we found a villa the owner would only consider sat to sat bookings and as its only 35 mins away we decided to go straight to the villa and the hotel moved the booking to the last night of our hol. Benefit of that is we plan on a meal at the cheesecake factory which I am told is close to the airport then a good nights sleep and relaxed get up in the morning as we already at the airport. We can check out of the room at midday and go straight to check in.

Picking up the car the next day is a fine idea but don't forget that it will mean you returning it back at the collection time at the end of your holiday - say breakfast time - and your flight isn't until the early evening.
