Yes, you can sign up online. See http://www.uscarhire.com/alamo-kiosk...ss-pickup.aspx for more details. This doesn't allow you to go directly to the garage, but you can avoid the desk by going to the kiosks near the desk.

We arrived last night and used the Alamo kiosk. It worked a treat and saved the hassle and time of waiting in line at the rental desk. Booked a full size SUV and got a nice GMC Yukon (same as Tahoe) with under 2,000 miles on the clock. Great service from uscarhire as usual.

So far I have always found the kiosks not working or the queue for them as long as the queue for the counter so never used a kiosk yet.

We have done this before when we have booked through Virgin.

When we arrived 15/2 we went to desk although I had completed both our rentals online. I wanted to check whether my niece who didn't have a IDP could still drive the larger car. When my husband went to the desk with his "golf car booking" the clerk said that as he'd registered on-line he should go straight through to garage.

I had the paperwork issued at desk and he had the details I'd printed off my computer and we both exited the booths ok, his took a little longer.

That's why I say the "official" answer is NO. Often you can do this and it works, and many Alamo staff will say it is OK. The official policy is that you cannot go straight to the parking lot, and if we told customers otherwise, and they tried it and got knocked back, then we'd receive complaints for giving inaccurate information.

Talking car hire...does anyone know the extra charge if you pick up a car in San Francisco and dropped it off in Orlando, I have heard it can be as much as $500 plus local taxes payable when you pick up the car, anyone any experience.
    Thanks
    Val
