    Miami Toll roads map

Maimi area has recently implement a CASH LESS toll system on some of it roads. If you do not have your own transponder system or have hired one from the car company then you should plan to avoid these roads.

If you are flying into Miami but staying somewhere else it is possible to avoid these roads. As long as you know and can plan ahead you should not have problems. The map below is available at the car hire desk but it is better to plan your route now.

If you click on the image below you should see a larger version.

I should also have said that because of size limits the map is not as clear as I would like. The simple thing to remember when looking at the map is to AVOID the ORANGE and BLUE roads all the other are OK.

    Regards Dave

We drove back to Orlando from Key West using some of the orange roads on your map.

We were in an Alamo rental (which uses number plate recognition) and the tolls are then charged back to us via the hire company.

If you read the Alamo small print it says that they automatically register you for this, I understand the others require you to ask for it to be activiated.

A transponder is not a requirement.

You pay $2 plus the toll the first three times you drive through a toll booth. After that it's just the toll fee, so a total extra fee of $6 for the duration of your hire. I think this is Alamo only so you many want to buy a cheap transponder from Walmart or Publix ($10) if you are using another company.

As long as you register the transponder to the car within 24 hours of your first toll booth use you will not get a fine.

Each car hire company has its own charging system with some far more expensive than others so it is worth checking toll usage costs before hiring a car if you are going to use the toll roads and do not have your own transponder. It is now quick and easy to get out of Miami now they have the new transport hub without using any toll roads by using the 27.
