Thanks Jill we haven't been watching this series, found it v entertaining, and how nice to see some real Florida ... even if it was barking mad!
I think Paul Merton is very funny and has a sharp wit that usually makes me laugh but, for me, this series doesn't quite come off. I've watched all the episodes and ending up switching off before the end because Merton just doesn't seem right for that kind of thing. He looks uncomfortable and his forced laughter starts to irritate me. It's not a patch on Billy Connolly's recent Route 66 series because he's an absolute natural and has an enthusiasm for his subject that Merton lacks.
Last night's episode was the worst so far and all that nonsense with the family he supposedly kept meeting everywhere was like watching children's TV. I've got to say that it wasn't a very positive or amusing portrayal of Florida.

Have to agree and to me it felt like he did not really want to be there - it was a shame really as Florida has so many places which could have showcased it in a positive light. If I did not already like Florida it would not have made me think 'must go there for a holiday' but more think I could give it a miss.
Having watched Paul Merton's previous episodes I was not expecting him to do a great job on selling Florida as a holiday destination. As Jill said such a shame he did not show it in a more positive light when there is so much to see and do.
