We've relaxed the moderation on here a lot since Blottie sadly passed away and would not move that kind of thing unless there was a very good reason.

I wrote a very long trip report a few years back which was about decorating, refurbishing, plus the damage some mid eastern guests had done amounting to $8000. It was removed as unsuitable although I had several e-mails from owners - who had managed to read it before it's removal - saying it should not have been removed as 'upstairs' need to know what we owners occasionally (just the once thank goodness) have to contend with. It took me ages to write, and I think I have only bothered once more to write a report - if that - as I had spent so much time on the first one to have it unceremoniously removed (by Blottie) with no explanation until I asked for one has put me off.

I totally agree Sandra dosen't do any harm for upstairs to know what we owners have to content with from time to time .Many guests think owning rental property in Florida is a dream come true . In many ways is it, but on occasion it's not a bed of roses.[msnsmile2]

I come on and read the posts, but do not often comment. Was a little put off years ago when I was almost hung, drawn and quartered on the forum for staying in a hotel!!! At the time I couldn't afford anything else! BUT I do love coming on here almost every day and reading what you're all up to. I will definitely write a trip report in March when I go next!!

Sometimes topics do become heated and this can put off OV members posting. I am sorry you felt you you were hung drawn and quartered years ago. Hopefully this will not happened now. The forum has enough moderators to ensure topics are monitored closely at all times.

I have some sympathy with what you felt.

I suppose it's inevitable and perfectly understandable on a forum that exists to promote Florida villa rental where most active members are owners. A few years ago I spent some time compiling a report and posting photos about a trip I made to the Gulf Coast and rented a beach front condo (there weren't any properties on this site that fit the bill). While I can't claim to have felt 'hung drawn and quartered' I did feel that there was quite a bit of negativity from a few members who had villas for rent in the area.

I don't bother now but I still enjoy reading other people's reports.

I think that even within topics that can become heated or emotive, as long as all posters remember to respect the other forum members then we should all be able to discuss things in a mature fashion. I guess that it is true that as owners, we do all have a vested interest in promoting our villas, but it does none of us any fovours if the forums are not active. So contributions from everyone should be welcomed, after all, that way, we have more chance to convert virtual forum guests into real life villa guests.

If at any time you feel that a post or comment is inappropriate or hurtful or unfair or whatever, then please do report it. You can be sure that the admins and mods will look into it and, if necessary, take action.

Now ... go and wash your mouth out for mentioning the h word!

You really should do the reports again. As Barbara said there are enough of us keeping an eye to ensure that things do not get out of hand. All contributions are welcome.

It's not so much that the comments get out of hand but the "You should have rented a villa" or "If you rent from anywhere other than this site, you're taking a chance" type of posts are just a bit tiresome and make you wonder why you went to the trouble of sharing your experience.

It's not a big deal at all and, as I have said, it's understandable, but as Big Momma has said, I have noticed that reports about Florida holidays that don't include villa rental are met with apathy or sometimes even a degree of negativity.

I do sometimes feel I am being "talked down to" when people reply to posts.... a prime example of this is the debate on travellers cheques and cash vs. credit cards/debit cards ..... as long as the dollar bill is printed I will be using cash on my holiday, I know that I and a few others think that we are made to feel like we live in the dark ages because we don't use our credit cards/debit cards when on holiday and I don't think we should be disrespected or "talked down to" because this is the way we choose to take our money ...... I do think twice before expressing my opinion these days (this post has taken a lot of thought before posting) although having said that I love coming on here and my day isn't complete unless I get my OV fix. I hope I haven't offended anyone by saying all of this.

Many thanks for posting, as you said it took a lot of thought. Nobody should make anyone feel bad for expressing an opinion. We have a set of rules on OV and everyone should abide by them...if they don't, then we Moderators "step in" edit anything which could be offensive and let the poster know. In fact, some folks have been removed for "talking down" to others.
So come on Wendy and everyone else....let's be hearing from you and for the record I agree with your view on "cold hard cash" so maybe I am also from another age
