    Hiring from Alamo

    Hi,

Myself and my girlfriend are visiting Orlando in November. We've got our flights and car hire through Virgin, and have been told the car is with Alamo. We've got the economy car which seems to e a Chevrolet Aveo

How easy is it to upgrade to a bigger/better car? Can it be done for free or how much extra would I be expected to pay?

Also what is the score on petrol, do you get a full tank and return with a full tank, or get x amount in and return with x amount?

    Cheers

    Steve & Dan

If the car is part of a Virgin fly-drive then even if you don't upgrade you will probably have to pay $350 or so on collection for various fees. If you also upgrade it then you could pay that much again. The fuel policy will depend on Virgin's package deal.

Most people with a Virgin (or any other fly-drive) ignore the car and then book another car with someone like us for a fully inclusive rate and other incentives, as it works out cheaper in the end.

Thanks for the reply. That's a little on the cheeky side. No one has mentioned having to pay any more when I collect the car. I will be speaking to the travel agents about that tomorrow.

I've had a look at my hire and it says everything is covered.

I've done a fly drivein the past. The 'free' car hire was only for 1 week (even though we had booked for 3) and didn't include many of the insurances you need. Check it out throughly with Virgin and you may well find car hire from this site works out far cheaper. Upgrades are normally cheaper before hand than at the desk.

My past experience with Virgin car hire was not good. I was very annoyed I had to pay extra when picking the car up at Orlando airport .

I have bought Virgin fly drive offering one weeks car hire. As in my experience most times the flydrive prices are cheaper than flight only prices
I then purchase the car hire from http://www.uscarhire.co.uk and ignore the car hire from Virgin .It has worked out cheaper.

Hi Steve & Dan, If you do go ahead with the Virgin package then decide on arrival at the Alamo desk that you want to upgrade, it can be done, but will be expensive. I know the silver package with this site you get the car full of petrol and return it empty, once you return the car your credit card will be charged for the full tank of petrol. The Gold option from this site you get hte car full but are not charge when you return the car as it is included in the Gold option.

I do know years ago when we ever booked a fly drive we had to pay loads of money (not sure how much now) and it really was not included in the price we paid for the Fly
drive, maybe things have changed now.

This site not only offers great rates, they also offer a fantastic customer service, you are a person, not just a booking reference number.

    Have a great holiday.

I've been on Virgin Holiday Fly Drives in the past and found it cheaper (as Roger says) to ignore the car and book a car from USCar Hire (this site). When I costed the extra week, CDW, SLI, Upgrade etc. it was much cheaper booking the car I wanted from this site with the cover I wanted.

We had a Virgin fly/drive when we went in 2009 and we asked the travel agent for a 7 seater and were given a Grand Caravan and never had to pay any other taxes or surcharges when we got there and we weren't pressured to upgrade etc .... we only got that because the fly/drive was cheaper than flights only ..... we had a full tank of fuel and had to return it empty .....

Just get them to amend your booking to a fully inclusive car package with Virgin and try and upgrade here in the U.K. as it costs more when you get to the car hire desks on arrival.

See if you can also use the Alamo fast track as it saves a lot of time on getting your car. You input your details prior to going, use touch screens on arrival, of you go and get your car. Much quicker than waiting to speak to people on the desk
