    Keeping in touch

    Hi

Whilst we are in Florida we were thinking of the best way to keep in touch with each other in the parks etc

I guess the best way is to have a mobile phone each

Can anybody give me some advice as to what phones, sims, to get and where to go buy them. A pay as you go option would be best, that can be set up quickly ideally whilst we are in the shop

I have heard of tracphones ?? and believe these are available from Walmart

Any idea of the costs of these and ease of setup/use etc

Also is the easiest way to call the UK to get a calling card, our villas has free local calls only

    Thanks

Tracphones cost around $15 and you get quite a few minutes on them. Good value. Walgreen's sell calling cards for various denominations. Surprised that your villa only offers free local calls as so many offer all calls free as well as wireless internet. It is so cheap to offer free calls with One-Suite, I have only spent around $20 in the last year on my One-Suite top ups.

We bought walkie talkies years ago (very cheap in Walmart) and still use those. Ideal in parks but if you're splitting up in different directions for the day not so good cos of limited range. Stuck in Rapids queue for a long time whilst there was a downpour and hubby outside. Talked with him as if he was there with me and the kids but don't think we would have done that with a mobile.

    Hi

We had considered walkie talkies, but the downside is if the wife goes shopping on her own (happens often!) then with two mobiles we can keep in touch with each other. I will look at the tracphones as they seem to be a reasonable option. Thanks for the replies

The other good thing with Tracphones is that the calling rates are very good and with the ones we have they cost the same for International calls as they do local calls and that way you can make sure you get no nasty surprises as you could do if you use your own mobiles.

We don't offer International calls as we offer a computer with free internet access and found that so many of our Guests say they prefer to use email because of the time difference and in some cases their own mobile or do as you are thinking and get a couple of cheap mobiles.
