    Rocket Launch viewing

After many years of wanting to see a shuttle launch and never succeeding, we finally got to see the next best thing with the launch of an Atlas Rocket from Cape Canaveral sending the Juno mission off to Jupiter.

It was late going up so had us worried that it was going to be scrubbed for the day but at 11.25 the flames suddenly leapt into sight and off it went.

If anyone gets the chance to see a launch going from site 41 which is close to the shuttle launch pad then there is a fantastic viewing sight which we strongly recommend.

If you head through Titusville and carry on to Playalinda beach you can actually see the launch pad so you see everything from the ground up - it only cost $3 per person, there was good car parking with some basic washroom facilities, it wasn't too busy so you don't have to get there hours ahead of time, and it is a nice beach for sunbathing and playing in the sea.

We were there too, it's a fab spot and was fabulous to see the rocket. I agree with you about Playalinda beach, we only just got there in time for the sheduled time we park and walked straight onto the beach - no queues of traffic jams - gorgeous beach!
