APD Tax - Hands off our holidays!

Don't want to be political on the forum, but I do suspect that just about everyone reading this will probably have a similar view so I'll take a chance and post it anyway.

You may not know it, but all of us who travel to Florida are paying way over the odds on our flights compared to the rest of Europe, all down to APD. Our tax on flying is 8.5 times the European average.

You can petition your MP and tell him enough is enough. They won't change it unless we shout loud, so I do encourage everyone to go for it. It's simple, just go to the site, put in your postcode and up pops an email to your MP.

Some countries have abolished this tax as it was harming their economy - what do we do instead - keep raising it. What is daft is it costs more to fly to the Caribbean than it does to Hawaii because of the way the tax is structured. It also costs more if you sit in any class of seat higher than economy.

Recently I read the following: MPs have called for air passenger duty (APD) to be abolished on most flights out of Northern Ireland.
The Northern Ireland Affairs Committee has recommended the Treasury abolish APD on short and medium-haul flights from the region, currently in tax bands A and B. This would include flights to the US.
