    US$ MORTGAGES

Can anybody recommend the best place for a US$ mortgage to purchase our villa. We only need to borrow approx 50% of the purchase price. Quite like the sound of the sterling mortgages that are available.

    Hi Michelle

We are with the Huntington Mortgage Company who seem very good but have you jumping through hoops to secure your loan.

Contact is Rhonda James (excellent) rhonda.james@huntington.com, you could give her an e-mail, she has actually moved onto another job at the Huntington Mortgage Company but is the best person to advise on foreign mortgages. Current charge is $425 per mortgage application.

Huntington bank has just been bought out by Suntrust. Is Huntington Mortgage still the same?

    Hi Chris

No, Huntington Mortgage is totally separate to Huntington Bank (or so they lie!!!). You are correct, we were with Huntington Bank which has been taken over by SunTrust Bank and we found out a couple of weeks ago that Huntington Mortgage sold our mortgage onto Washington Mutual, net result, no mortgage paid for 2 months and we were nearly foreclosed!!!!

Apparently, both companies (Huntington and Washington) wrote to us, but guess where, yes, at our Florida address. This whole shambles cost us over $130 in late payment charges (which we are still waiting for reimbursement on) and we believe that Washington will have reported us as bad debtors, so we have that whole sorry mess to sort out as well!!!

Strange - we have been with Washington Mutual for 16 months (from a new start up mortgage) and to date they have been excellent so far (touch wood). We only took out a 35% mortgage - maybe that is the difference, I don't really know or maybe the problem is the change between companies. It seems failry regular in the US that mortgages are sold on to larger companies so be careful.
