    Passport Renewal

Does anyone know if you need a certain amount of time left on your passport when visiting US? I vaguely recall seeing that you need 6 months clear after the date of entry or did I dream it?

You do not need 6 mths clear from date of entry although several holiday companies state you do.

If you have time its always worth renewing your passport slightly early anyway, they will add up to 6 remaining months to the new 10 years.

The will add up to 9 months - the following is from the DirectGov website:

You do not have to wait until your old passport expires to apply to renew it. If there is any time left on your old passport, IPS will add it to your new passport, up to maximum of nine months. You can renew your passport whenever you wish, but IPS cannot carry over more than nine months from your old passport to your new one

From the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

<<<< Does my British passport have to be valid for six months beyond my date of departure from the United States?

No, if your passport is not valid for at least six months beyond your date of departure from the United States, it will not affect your eligibility to travel. The United States has an agreement with the United Kingdom automatically extending the validity of a passport for six months past the passport's expiration date. Therefore, your passport need remain valid only for the duration of your stay in the United States. >>>>

If you choose to renew earlier REMEMBER you need to renew your ESTA also.
