    Simulators at Fantasy of Flight

We have kept a day aside to visit the 'Fantasy of Flight' museum during our Olrando visit. My father-in-law is a retired aeronautical design engineer and some others in our group are very much into planes. One piece of disturbing news that I heard is that the popular motion simulators at the museum have been taken out of service for several months. Does anyone know why and if there is a projected date for their reinstatement?

It doesn't have any info about anything being closed on their website http://www.fantasyofflight.com/ so it might be worthwhile contacting them and asking directly to make sure that if they are closed, they'll be back in time for your visit.

Thanks Blott. I did just that a few days ago and while they confirmed that the simulators WERE closed temporarily due to instructions from a power company or something, they were evasive about the details or the proposed date of restart. I thought someone from this forum might have some inside info following an actual recent visit to the place.

    Nostromom,

Having been to Fantasy of Flight several times I can say you ain't missing much by not going on the simulators. They really were very basic. My hubby had been looking forward to them as his job in the RAF was a Flight Simulator engineer and he was so disappointed when he saw them. The children enjoyed them the first time as they were only about 8 and 11 at the time and hadn't gotten in to playing in simulators on the pc and such like.

Is the fantasy of Flight worth a day/half day trip then?

As a pilot I too was a little disappointed at the simulators - MS Flight Simulator is as good if not better.

The museum is good, if not a little overpriced. If you have ever been to the RAF museum at Cosford or the Imperial War Museum at Duxford you will find FoF a little tame but if you have not been to these two great UK collections then you will find FoF fanfastic.

We actually deleted FoF from our schedule in order to make room for Old Town on a Saturday evening. After a bit of consideration, I felt that I ought to make an effort to see the Imperial War Museum first and after that FoF would probably be pointless. We may even have visited the IWM before we go to Orlando.

I agree with John. The IWM is well worth a trip to Duxford, far out does FOF.

The great thing abotu the IWM is you can fly-in yourself - it's one of my all time favourite days out [msnsmile].

It's the only place I know where you can regularly see a very historic aircraft such as a Spitfire or Hurricane in the air during your visit.
