Car hire - New York to Florida

We are planning to spend two weeks driving from New York to Florida, spend two weeks in Florida, leave the car there and fly back.
Keep finding hefty charges for taking a car to another state. Does anyone know of any good deals?

try Alamo - we did something similar and were charged £50 for another State drop off

Thanks Tony - I will have a look at them. Have you tried Alamo recently?
We used to use them until we had to wait over an hour for a car as they had 'run out of cars'. Not much fun after a long flight.

Sounds great fun Mo-I hope you are going to do a trip report. How many hours/days are you allowing for the journey.

Some people from New Jersey said it would take them 18 hours-will you be travelling from roughly the same area.

Will you be traveliing this time of the year-and do you go through some spectacular scenery on the drive. I've only done Nevada and Florida-so haven't a clue on other states!

It cost us....$600 for 4 days when we drove down to FL from Mass.....put that against $80 return by plane.......I know from now on I'll fly unless I'm taking my own car and driving there and back.....
