    My lucky leprechaun taxis

Hi guys! first time poster here, I am coming to Florida with my family this July. I am not all that interested in driving when I am here. My friend who has been to Florida a number of times recommended hiring a taxi to do all my driving for me. I've found this company,MLL taxis, and am happy with the price and package that they gave me but I would like the opinion of the Experts, that's you lot!, Are MLL taxis a good company?

Thanks in advance for any help that you can give me.

    Don.

Sorry, Don, it's unlikely that the vast majority of owners here would have used that company for a whole trip!! We all end up going to so many places getting things for the villa that it would be cheaper to buy the Taxi company!!!

Hopefully someone will be able to help you.

I'm afraid it's not one that I have heard of either-do you have any more details?

Well, I found them but I don't know anything about them!

They appear to do 'packages' of airport to resort & return, 4 return trips to Disney, 2 round trips to Universal/Sea World plus one 30 minute shopping trip ([:0] how can anyone do a 30 min shopping trip?) for $340 for 7 days in the Kissimmee area or $310 from International Drive.

Actually, when driving's so easy in Florida and rental cars not expensive, I just wonder why people don't rent one and then they can have as many trips to anywhere they like for similar or less cost.

Hi - my son was really nervous about driving in Florida but took to it like a duck to water. We flew to Tampa so the drive to the villa in Kissimmee gave him plenty of time to get adjusted. Mind you, we did make one or two mistakes and ended up on the wrong road but it just meant we saw more of the "other" side of Florida! The cars are so comfy and you really need the freedom to go where you like which only driving yourself can bring. There is so much to see and do that I can't think you can cover it with taxis.

I know what you are all saying about driving, and I agree, mostly. The thing is, we are planning on coming back to Florida again in the near future, visa's allowing, so this time is a "theme park and shops" holiday. We are planning on going to maybe 6 or 7 parks in the two weeks we are going, so if you take off 2 days for arrival and departure that leaves us with 5 days for shopping and r&r.

I was all for driving but my friend told me about the taxi hire and said that in 10 visits to Florida he had never driven, so I thought, what the heck, let someone else take the strain and I'll live like a lord with my own driver for a fortnight.

    Hi Don

Are you staying in a Villa or a Hotel,it can make a difference. In a villa while only minutes away from parks, shops etc you are not usually within walking distance so would need a car for those impromptu meals or to buy some beers from the supermarket.

In a hotel there may be shuttles to the parks and a restaurant to eat at each night so you are more likely to be able to manage without a car.Personally I find driving in Florida an absolute doddle (although I was terrified the first time at the thought of it) now I fight with hubby for who gets to the keys to the hire car first

    Hi Don,

Yes if you prefer you could do the Parks by taxi but the shopping would be another thing all together. Our shopping trips normally last at least a couple of hours not 30 minutes. Things are so cheap and good quality in the Malls, Walmart, K-Mart and Target that we tend to go mad. We nornally travel with two half full case going to US and 3 very full cases coming back. To do all that in a taxi for each visit just would not make sense for us.

Whatever you chose have a great time and if you do chose taxi's let us know how you get on.

Thanks for all your input folks...Drum roll please.....I'm going to hire a car!!! As much as I like the thought of someone else driving me around for two weeks, the freedom of my own "set of wheels",not to mention the price of a hire car being pretty much the same as the taxi hire company and all your good advice has convinced me, so keep off the streets in July and if you see a guy in a Cherokee Jeep looking a little lost....[msnsmile2]
