Whenever I have needed one (pretty much always as I like to turn the auto locking off) it always being there. Of course if I did not need one it may well be that that particular car did not have one, have you really checked that all your hire cars have a manual?
Anyways there us always google, calling the hire company or dealership.

Why do you turn the auto locking off Martin? I'm just curious.

Managed to lock my kids in the car while changing a tire once. Left the engine running for a/c while changing the tyre and the auto lock kicked in. Not fun.

I find the "Beep" when locking or unlocking a car great!!!!

When I'm in a huge carpark & not sure where I left the car, just keep pressing the button & the car will sound out to you[msnwink]

This is not to be recomended. People who do this could end up with a vehicle that will not start because the car no longer recognises the key. Most hand books will tell you to be within 10 feet of the vehicle before opening. Depending on the make of vehicle, reprograming keys can be expensive.

Time to panic i should of thought. I have done something similar albeit without kids inside. Thought it would be a good idea to defrost my car while i had a cuppa only for the thing to lock itself. Took me a while to get into it with a bent bit of wire!
