Further to my question on must do on the Gulf Coast, can anyone recommend the best location? Prefer to be near a beach but they all look lovely - so which in your opinion would be the best place to stay?

Sarasota is our favourite, very closely followed by Englewood. Superb beaches and facilities, ideal for families.
Anyone got any info on Cape Coral? we have booked a great villa there for our 2nd week
Try Sanibel Island - you won't be sorry you did!quote:Originally posted by lisi

Ruth,
Can you say why you didnt like Cape Coral?
Thanks
Hi Ruth
I too would be very interested to hear your experiences of Cape Coral,I have been looking to rent a home there in August to extend the few days I have at my Villa. The rental properties look superb and I really fancy the idea of renting a boat and cruising the extensive waterways but before I do I would welcome your experience of the area.

Have you looked at renting the opposite side of the caloosahatchee river South Ft.Myers? There are some excellent communities off McGregor Boulevard sited on the river side.

We had really liked the look of the area on "A Place in the Sun".We called in at a realtors office for a map and information on lots for sale, drove round the area, and looked at some lots/properties. Maybe we did not find the right part, but it reminded me of a British new town. Not with the roundabouts etc, but with just loads of loads of streets the all looked the same and that made it really easy to get lost. There seemed to be no beautiful views, just homes on narrow canals. I like a "proper" water view. The lots and homes were VERY expensive, and when I compared the area with Cape Haze/Englewood/Rotunda, which was where we were staying, I was extremely disappointed.

I agree with Kevin, Sanibel Island is just amazing. Very popular to see people collecting enormous shells from the beach. We had a great few days there and would happily go back.
