You will have a long walk from AK Lodge to store. The nearest store is on the 192 from there and the road is not walkable. not sidewalks at all, and not lit at night, cars take the sherberth road to the 192 at a bit of a lick too, and there is a blind corner that has numerous bumps.

AK Lodge will have a conveinence store on site, as this is a DVC accommodation.

The Goodies supermarket closed several years ago, so I think the information must be a little out of date. Even so, it was located at Formosa Gardens which isn't within walking distance of AKL. I could be wrong though and there may be another Goodies that I don't know of, if so hopefully someone will come along and correct me.

As Ceri says, there are no supermarkets you can walk to but, as you have no car for the first week, are you getting a shuttle from the airport? If so, sometimes they will stop at a grocery store along the way, so you could ask the company you have booked with or ask the driver.

Possibly the nearest grocery store is Publix at Orange Lake on Highway 192, but you would need a car to get there. There is also a Super Target across the road from there.

I think Disney have these types of shops near each of their villa accommodations. At Christmas we went wandering round the Boardwalk, which has the ocean club, (or beach villas or yacht club or something like that) and there was a supermarket-type shop hidden within a souvenir shop, clearly meant for the beach villa guests. You could buy just about everything you needed for self catering (but fairly basic stuff). I assume the same applies across all their resorts.

The Disney hotels which will presumably be beside the villas also have shops in them, and whilst I don't remember if the shop in the hotel we went into had coffee and milk, it certainly had crisps, bread, drinks etc as well as lots of other stuff. We bought a disney suitcase in it.

    I don't think you'll be stuck.

Youwill pay more fore thes basics in there than in an outside supermarket just as you do at resorts in the UK. We stayed at the Caribbean beach resort for one night and noticed the food court had a takeaway section with cereals and basics etc. The room had a fridge and microwave only so would be limiting as to what you can cook. If you drink tea then tea bags are worth taking.

Is'nt AK a luxury resort? rather than a self catering one?
    the AK blurb says
"Savor authentic African cuisine at the Resort's 2 award-winning restaurants, Jiko - The Cooking Place and Boma - Flavors of Africa." and mentions room service etc.

I expect that coffee etc may be provided in the rooms, but not much else?
You may find the Disney buses , being round circuits, will get youy to the Disney resorts mentioned for the 'supermarkets' but being Disney will be, as Steph says, a bit on the pricey side.
Stock up with essentials before you go

Hi Lynn. You can get milk, groceries, etc from the shops within the resort.

If you are stopping at Kidani Village the shop area is smaller than at Jambo House across the road. (easy stroll)[msnwink]

Depending on what level of villa you stay in (if its DVC property) you get wet bar & microwave etc or full kitchen & laundry facilities.

Yes the costs are higher than supermarkets off site but its your holiday [msncool]so why worry about journeys to the shops to save a few pennies on milk.[msnwink]

Whatever you do try the Zebra Domes[msntongue][msntongue]. If you have the buffet meal at Boma in Animal Kimgdom Lodge they are on it. If not you can get them in the shops. Mine "love" them[easter1]

Yes Ian it is a Luxury Resort, sitting on a balcony with a glass of red, (and some Zebra Domes) watching Giraffes wander past a few feet away, awesome!!!
