    VAT Increase & Flights

    Does anyone know, if I book my flights now for next November will I pay 17.5% VAT or will I be expected to pay the extrra 2.5%

    If you pay in full now you pay 17.5%-because the day you complete the payment becomes the tax point.

    I think you will find international flights are not liable for VAT (at the moment!!!)

    apparently I read something about VAT and that a law was passed so it couldn't be back dated, e.g. if you order a sofa now and it is delivered in the New Year, you have to pay the higher rate of VAT

    I don't think international flights are subject to Vat! They have their own tax which has gone up already on November 1st to £60 per person from £35 for a flight to Florida.

    Flights (and rail fares) are actually subject to VAT but are 'zero-rated' so the effect is that none is payable. Of course, that allows for easier rises than if they were exempt.
