Tuedsay 30th
So, we get to the airport after finally finding a garage to top us with fuel We hand in the car, no extra charges [msnsmile] Rush to terminal as we were unable to print our boarding passes after checking in online [msnsad] The two people in front of us are obviously having a problem with check in and a manager comes to the rescue. She is really friendly and efficient and our cases our way under the weight limit - all that time painting paid dividends in one way or another! Mainly reducing my shopping time!
We get through security and my glasses get broken in the scanning machine [msnmad] They don't care and just shrug their shoulders! We get to the gate and there is a slight delay in boarding but we are called up and upgraded to World Traveller Plus! Excellent [msnsmile] Finally boarding starts and as we are now in row 25 it is a while before we are called. Anyway, we start boarding and as we are walking down we are pulled aside and told to speak to the CM when we get to the door. We are upgraded to Business!!! Real bed! Cutlery and lovely food!! Bliss!!! We aren't sitting together but hey - who cares! We are just one seat apart. We enjoy the meal, champagne etc and settle down to sleep.
Wednesday 1st
Before we know it the lights are coming on then.........The announcement [msnsad]
The flight has been diverted to .......Manchester!! Gatwick is closed because of the snow - we are miles away from home [msnsad]. The plane lands and taxis to somewhere in Manchester! No steps, no coaches! The captain is excellent in wandering around keeping us all up to date - great PR job [msnsmile2] BA are excellent, the airport lets them down and they do their best in a difficult situation. The cabin crew bring round drinks. They are unable to do anything else and keep smiling and answering queries with as much information as they have. Finally after nearly 2 hours we are on the first coach load off the plane. Great! It's another 2 hours before we get the the luggage! We get though customs and get onto the coach - we are going to be dropped off at Oxford services and our son is going to pick us up. Finally we get home at a little after 6pm!
It good to be back at last. The dogs are delighted to see us and our daughter likes her pressies! MAC, NARS and Bobbi Brown, and a chocolate bar heavily disguised by a million dollar note [msnwink] - who wouldn't be!
It now seems like we were never away - better go book another trip [msnsmile2]
