Yes, I am about giving up on trying to predict what BA will do with prices. Over the last few days, they have been reducing the outbound fare and increasing the return. The total always stays the same or £1 either side. Once other airlines open their long term bookings, I am going to see if it has any effect on BA's prices, but at the moment it is looking like Continental will offer the best and more stable pricing.

    Travel dates returning 27/10
    Date Outbound Inbound Total
    09/11/1 £331.00 £362.00 £693.00
    10/11/11 £331.00 £362.00 £693.00
    11/11/10 £324.00 £368.00 £692.00
    12/11/10 £324.00 £368.00 £692.00
    13/11/10 £331.00 £362.00 £693.00
    14/11/10 £317.00 £376.00 £693.00
    15/11/10 £331.00 £362.00 £693.00
    16/11/10 £331.00 £362.00 £693.00

    Travel dates returning 30/10
    Date Outbound Inbound Total
    13/11/10 £331.00 £377.00 £708.00
    14/11/10 £304.00 £403.00 £707.00
    15/11/10 £304.00 £403.00 £707.00
    16/11/10 £304.00 £403.00 £707.00

Pointless trying to follow BA's fares on a daily basis, because they change their prices by the hour it seems. Flights out on 12/10/11 and back on 27/10/11 have been holding steady around £693 return (still over-priced), that was up until this afternoon. Just took another look, and they have now jumped to £737 return.
For the dates out on 12/10/11 and back on 30/10/11 have been holding steady around &708 return (way over-priced), suddenly tonight they have jumped to £752 return.

I don't care what reasons BA would give for such ridiculous prices, last year I paid £429 for the same flights. Fuel prices, taxes, etc. haven't jumped that much. In fact the exchange rate is better now than 12 months ago, and fuel is paid for in $, so we should be getting more fuel for our money.
Unfortunately I think you are right. As I said previously, "One thing you can be sure of is the airlines will charge as much as they can get away with and still fill the aircraft."

If people keep paying it, they will keep charging it.
The airlines couldn't give a s**t what Joe Public has to say about airfares, and as long as people are prepared to pay these over-inflated prices they will charge what they like.

I suspect that airlines will hold airfares at a high level, hoping to sell as many seats as they can before the end of year with Joe Public trying to beat the VAT rise.

The days of cheap air travel are over! It's about time the budget airlines expanded and gave the big boys some competition on long haul...they need it.

ah the black art of Airlines and their pricing!

I would say book as soon as you feel comfortable to do so and the price is about what you want to pay. I have known many people leave it thinking the price will go down and it actually goes up due to not many seats left.

I must admit it can be annoying booking a flight only to log on a few hours later to see the price has dropped!
