    Sanibel Island and the Keys

Now then all you Floridian experts - I have asked for info on the best spot on the Gulf Coast and thanks for those of you who replied. I have decided to definitely have a week on Sanibel Island in late September but will also have a week somewhere else first. Further questions are - is there enough to do on the island for a week apart from lazing on the beach? Which part of the island would you recommend as being the best to stay in.

Does anyone else have any ideas as to where to stay for my first week. I had thought I would go back to the villa in Kissimmee but having 'done that bit' would like to see something different in Florida. Perhaps the Fort Lauderdale area - it all looks great it is hard to know where to begin. Only myself and son and can't cope with stairs or walking for miles.

Be grateful to y'all for any help - I have found this site to be so helpful on my last visit to Florida - I went armed with printouts of the forum and it was great - saved myself no end of money and time.

The Keys are great, particularly Key West! We had a blast down there in November. The Keys are very flat - at least I don't remember any hills but we had visted many bars! There is quite a lot to do in Key West, boat trips, snorkelling and the tram tour was great. The place is steeped in history! There are various things to do at each Key, we swam with dolphins in Key Largo but there are other places on the Keys to do it too.

Our highlight was swimming with Manatees at Homossasa Springs, it's very pretty up there and quite different from Central Florida, don't know if you'd want to spend a whole week up there though.

    Enjoy, wherever you go.

Thanks Fiona = I checked the website and it looks great. I just get so confused with all the information on these websites though and it helps if someone has been and can recommend a place or accommodation.
