    another esta question,

    Hi there ,
We as a family registered our details for our Estas in Dec 09, I know this lasts for 2 years, but my daughter has lost her 1 year old passport, Does that mean we have to register for another esta for her or will the one we go in Dec still be ok ?

I suspect you'll have to do it again because one of the "identifiers" is your passport number- but you will only need to do the one

The ESTA last for 2 years or until expiry of the passport, whichever is sooner. As your daughter has lost hers it will dpend on if her replacement carries the same number or if a new one is issued. Not quite sure on replacements.

The original passport will be cancelled, so the replacement passport will have a new number, see

So when she gets the new passport, she'll need to get a new ESTA.

Just a tip as well , when youu apply for the new Esta, you now have to pay $14 which has to be paid by credit card. If you have a credit card that charges excess for foreign transactions, a way to avoid paying any more, is to use one of the prepaid travel cards (something like the Fairfx card) which then won't incur any charges because you are paying in USD.

If you still have the original ESTA reference number, you might be able to change the passport number without getting a new ESTA.

The esta faq page states the a new passport necessitates a new application.
