Change to Itinerary

Hi,

I am due to fly out this Saturday coming and have just received an e-mail from out airline (Aer Lingus), they have changed our timetable for our return flights, we were due to arrive back in Dublin from Orlando at 08:05 on Wed 13th Oct and connect back to BHam for a flight at 12:30 this was changed a few weeks ago to depart Dublin at 14:30 a change of 2Hrs. I have just received another e-mail saying that our flight from Dublin is now going to be 18:30 another delay of 4Hrs. This is more than the 2Hrs in their policy and I have to now contact them to discuss alternatives....! .
Does anyone know what other alternatives they are talking about..its a bit of a concern as we will be up for ovewr 20Hrs with 2 children and my wife has Diabetes...or has anyone suffered similar problems...
Any help would be appreciated
Martin

The answer to your question will be found in the terms and conditions of your ticket. You refer to the '2 hour policy' and they do seem to have breached that. Unfortunately, the only effective option is usually to cancel the ticket for a full refund but of course that's not realistic in your circumstances so late in the day.

The best advice I could give would be to keep calling to see what can be done but there's no guarantee that will work.

Good luck with it!!

Earlier this year BA changed Stuart's flight as they cancelled the flight into Tampa on the Thursday and changed it to the next flight which was the Friday. He rang them and said he did not want to lose a day so they changed it to the Wednesday and flew him out the day early. I would definitely suggest you ring them and explain the situation especially with regard to your wife's medical condition as they might be able to do something.

The alternatives might be to fly you earlier from Dublin to Birmingham via London, or even that they put you on another airline to get back to Birmingham. Would Manchester - for inward and outbound be feasible?

Robert,
The only problem with flying to Manchester or any other UK airports would be that we have our car parked at one of Birmingham's car parks...we would still have to get back to pick our car up...

Thanks

I just had a look at the availability on the DUB-BHX flights for your return dates. I see that there isn't a 1230 departure anymore so nothing can be done about that.

I see there is as much availability on the 1430 departure as there is on the 1830 so they could keep you on that if you can persuade them. I think the question that you need to ask them is just why you can't be on the 1430 now. if they tell you there are no seats, they aren't being honest with you.

Hi KatysGrandad,

The 2.30 flight is no longer available I checked about 10 mins ago...
I called the airline and they said they can do nothing to help me...either wait for th flight home or cancel the whole thing and rebook...this would cost me £1.5K as i got the flights cheap and everything else is all paid for ......they are a little bit naughty for doing this but what else can i do?.......

Cheers

I still don't think that's the case but, if it is, then there probably isn't anything you can do other than buy a ticket on another airline. Even so, I'd still call Aer Lingus again to see what's happened here.

It wouldn't be if you flew outbound from Manchester and your car was parked there. Haven't looked at flight schedules, but would that be feasible?

If the delays were introduced when you were at the airport they airline would have to give you food vouchers for a delay of that length of time, just wondered if you lay it on a bit thick if there is any chance they would book a day room at the hotel for you, for your wife to rest during the 6 hours. As you had made sure the times were appropriate when you booked they ought to try to be a bit accommodating. It doesnt shorten the journey at all but at least the children will be contained in the hotel room and hopefully can watch tv or nap which means its easier for you all to relax instead of trying to watch them at the departure lounge.

Another alternative is there a lounge you could get access to at Dublin you could suggest they might offer passes>
