    prepaid cards v tc

I know a lot of you think that tc's are archaic but we have always used them, not taken much cash, paid for something with tc and then had change so kept our cash topped up. Costs nothing and no aggravation. So what do you do about cash if you have a card? Sorry if it's all obvious but we have never used one[msnembarrased]

I agree. I have been going to Florida since 1996 and have been on 7 occasions. Each time i have used a mixture of cash and travellers cheques. I have never had an issue with travellers cheques and always get the cash back in change. This way there is no issue with lost cards, ATM transactions charges or anything else. Until there is an issue, I have no reason to change, if it's not broken, don't fix it! I look forward to using my travellers cheques again on October 7th when I am next visiting Florida.

I always used Travellors cheques but then started to use my Nationwide Debit card for cash. In March I used my old TC's as I has heard that some shops were refusing to accept them. I had no trouble using them where ever we shopped and I wish now I'd kept them for our next trip [msncry]

For those who are still using Nationwide debit cards to withdraw cash from an ATM they will be charging 2% commission plus £1 for overseas withdrawals starting in November.

This is why we have stayed with tc's as no worries about charges. We now have a new cc to replace our Nationwide from Halifax as this is apparently the best one to have now. I really begrudge paying to get cash out

Glad to hear TC's are still OK as I took the plunge and got mine at the week-end and some $$$$'s as well for our trip in 3wks
