    Travel insurance

Hi everybody, sorry if this subject has been covered but can anyone recommend a good travel insurance company, who actually do pay out if there is a problem.looking at some reviews on the internet its a minefield, so many bad comments its hard to choose.Hope we dont need to claim but if we do its nice to know your not dealing with cowboys. Cheers. Phil (snowy)

I have an American Express travel policy and have found it great in times of need. I took ill while staying in the villa and had to go into hospital. The treatment was 1st class and American Express paid for everything with no hassle. When I was discharged from hospital they arranged for a doctor to come out to see me twice at the villa and also arranged for me to see a specialist in Orlando. Not quite the holiday I had expected but everything was taken care of by the insurance.

We have taken our insurance with Forte, through Swinton Insurance, for the last few years. Thankfully have only had to make one claim, for medical fees following a whip-lash injury (on Kracken at Sea World) in 2009, and it was dealt with unbelievably quickly, and they even wrote a little note a couple of weeks later hoping my daughter was feeling better.

Another vote for American Express. Not the cheapest but claims (ours have been small amounts) have been hassle free. Of course you cannot pre-test this but the test of a good insurance company is its Claims Department.
