    flight tickets

Hi all, has anyone just arrived at the airport bought their flight tickets and then jumped on a plane and flew out to florida is this any cheaper than buying them many months inadvance or does it pay to buy early to get the best bargains.

    Many Thanks Poolman

Last minute fares are likely to be prohibitively expensive (even if they are available) because the airlines work on the assumption that anybody who buys tickets at that point is flying because they absolutely have to. You might get very lucky where a charter flight is heavily undersold but that's highly unlikely. Added to that, security issues and Advance Passenger Information requirements have made it much harder to do than in the past.

There really isn't a hard and fast rule on how early you need to book but if you have a large party you need to take availability into account. The usual advice is to decide what you see as an affordable fare and then, if/when it comes up, jump in.

Very expensive way of doing it, I work with some musicians and we get called to European countries at very short notice, often we have to buy tickets at the airlines desk. Typical booked in advance price is around £80 at the desk never had below £350. They know that if you are at the desk, you are desperate to fly. Just sent someone over to the USA, cheapest rate we could get on the day was £1100 for economy!!
