    Fort De Soto

If you want to get away from it all for a day try Fort De Soto.
you can hire bikes and has numerous trails to ride along. Some of these bikes are doubles/quads with parasols.and you can go canoeing,we allways ask the guy for a deal and he always gives us one.
There is a museum and of course a fort.
the water is warm we love sitting on the beach watching the dolphins play, or going canoeing if your quiet the manatees come up.
    We love it.
It is just over an hours drive but well worth it.

I can second that one, Fort De Soto is one of the best beaches I think in Florida, it has golden sand and lots of natural shade from the palm trees and you can sit and watch the wildlife.

We went to fort de soto again and again it was a great get away.
saw dolphins sea cows and loads of other animals.
went on the bikes and canuoes (can't spell it lol )
And we lazed around on the beach and in the warm sea.
Well worth the hour and a half drive..

[/quote]Agree, lovely place to visit. Someone at work who used to Live in Florida told us about Fort de Soto a couple of years ago. Nice sloping beach.

    Many thanks, Jo

Fort de Soto beach is about 15 miles south of St Petersburg. A nice drive over the water too.

On the way back from the beach, why not go to Treasure island near St Petes and to a Dukw tour. We saw dolphins following us in the water in November.
    Regards, Mark
