From memory [it was 22 years ago we drove this route] there were signs along the way, telling you to turn off your air conditioning to stop the car overheating- maybe they get a lot of broken down cars or something? THere is no way on gods earth I would have turned off the air con though!! A scenic drive, and nice to reach the strip at dusk.
Thsnks everyone, getting really excited now[8D]
and dont forget your cooler box filled with water. Boy you dont want to break down out there on that road. Never forget doing it Gill
We did it in the summer too. Getting out the car was like having a hair dryer blowing in your face with the hot wind. We also found the ground so hot that even in shoes we had to keep raising our feet to cool them down
It's a great journey, we went from LA to San Francisco, stayed at carmel then SF up through death valley up to Vegas. hope to do it again some day soon
We did this route in a hire car as well. We set of really early so we missed the midday sun, still very, very, hot.
