Part 7 Wobbly bike rides and Fort Myers.
We decided to go off exploring on our new bikes today[msnscared]. So up again at 7am, breakfast on the balcony and out before the sun got too hot.[msncool] My basket – scoffed at by Mr M - was soon full of bottles of water, maps, cameras and sun screen. Now as I said it is a long time since I have ridden a bike so a little practice was need around the car park before I was allowed to set off on the roads.[msnoo]
The island is covered by a net work of cycle tracks, we found it really pleasant exploring, and went to look at a few condos / cottage we had short listed before we booked Logger Head Cay. We still feel we made the right choice as the condo was really lovely and I didn’t see anything else that looked as nice.[msnsmile2]
Feeling a little more confident we cycled further into the island and found the library. Phil had told me I could get internet access here. [msnsmile] This is a fairly new building and has fantastic displays of the shells native to the island and some interesting paintings on display. The staffs are really helpful; we got sign up as island visitors and given 30 mins free internet access. [msnsmile2] This gave me chance to check up on a few emails and the confirmation for our stay at Celebration when we go over to Orland at the end of the week.[msnwink]
This is a home set back from the cycle track tht we are going to buy once the lotto numbers come up...
Across the road from the Library we found Jerry’s Foods – supermarket, recommended to us by Denise.[msnwink] If you ever go onto the island they have a very good butcher, and fresh fruit and veg section. Grabbed a drink and ice cream,[msntongue] sat out side in the sun looking at a collection of tame parrots, kept in a court yard out side the shops![msneek]
The temperature was now beginning to rise and it was getting uncomfortable. So we went back to the condo for lunch, quick wash and brush up and off to Fort Myers. Got slightly lost,[msnembarrased] but found what we think was the town centre, wandered around for a while and had a drive around too. The area just set back from the water front looks quite new and re modelled, whilst further into town, driving down the main strip it reminded me of Kissimmee, same choice of chain shops and restaurants, with the addition of Macys.[msnwink]
Called in at Wal-Mart, I wanted to look at the carry on suitcases. In the past we have just had hand luggage, in the shape of reasonably sized holdalls. After a while I get fed up of dragging them around the airport making my shoulders sore. When we flew down from New York, virtually everyone had a carry on suitcase. [msnsmile] This got me thinking how much more I could get into my cabin luggage rather than my hold luggage, which had been trimmed down to a mere 23kg by Mr Branson.[msnsad] In fact Phil was telling me they flew out with only cabin luggage! How impressive is that! [msnwink] Denise had a few comments to make on the matter but we won’t go over that now – lol.[msnwink] So now I’ve more luggage space couldn’t resist a few new T shirts and crop pants to help fill the space![msnwink] So cheap in Wal-Mart and I still have T shirts on the go that I purchased 4 years ago!
After a slightly disappointing visit to Fort Myers, we headed back to the island. As we were driving over the causeway Mr M saw dolphins swimming quite close to the shore. [msnsmile2] We pulled in to one of the parking areas and watched a pod of around 5 swimming quite close to us for around half an hour.[msnsmile2] This is the
