I slept like a log last night and felt really refreshed when I awoke. The house was silent so rather than disturb Helen I logged on to the computer, answered some e mails and had a quick browse through the forum.
Still no sound from Helen so I put the kettle on and sat with my book waiting for her to appear. Reading Veronica Henry, Wild Oats, at the moment a great read if you like Jilly Cooper!!
We sat with our early morning cuppa planning our day and decided that as the sun was not shining we would tackle the garage cupboard, the garage gets unbearably hot so it might be just a tad cooler without the sun on it’s roof!
Breakfast on the lanai first of all. By the time you have finished reading my trip reports you will realize I am a great fan of al fresco dining…………. Must be all those Enid Blyton style picnics when I was younger, jam sandwiches and lashings of ginger beer ( ref Steph and Susan's comments from previous thread!)[msnwink]
This morning it was just fruit, cereal and a cinnamon muffin but I swear it tastes ten times better than eaten indoors! The heat was oppressive though and we resorted to the fan overhead even though it is only wafting hot air around the breeze was very welcome.
Back indoors to tackle the garage cupboard. This supplements our owners cupboard and contains all manner of things that you take for granted back home. Tools, garden tools, cleaning products, electrical bibs and bobs, hooks for this, ties for that any one who has a similar cupboard here in Florida or if you are not a home owner substitute, contents of garage shelf, shed or spare room and you will understand. [msnoo]We also have a large number of towels in there many of which are new and stored in space bags and some old ones which we have discarded to use for cleaning jobs etc.
Originally everything was in plastic boxes, neatly labeled, but over time we have shoved more and more stuff in and it’s a bit chaotic!! Plus, one of the shelves has collapsed!![msneek]
Before we opened the garage door to work we made sure the door in to the house was firmly shut. Last year a lizard the size of a small alligator………ok so that’s a slight exaggeration but it was a big lizard……….got in through the lanai door as I opened it. I had spotted it basking in the door runner and didn’t know how to remove it, I thought opening the door might help, it did, the lizard ran indoors!!.[msnoo] I don’t have a problem with lizards in the great outdoors, but inside, never!!! I screamed as it made it’s way under the chest of drawers in my bedroom, there were four of us here, all girls and the other three came running to see what the problem was.[msnembarrased] I kept watch whilst my friend Sue went in search of a receptacle in which to trap it, my niece went for the broom to poke under the drawers and my sister blocked off one end of the furniture so it could not escape!
Operation, catch the lizard was underway, Sophie poked about with the broom and out ran the lizard, Sue clamped the Tupperware container down on top of it but wasn’t quick enough and only caught it’s tail which broke off and continued to wriggle!! [sick] The lizard made it’s escape under the sofa, there ensued more screaming and plotting to catch it. Eventually we managed to chase it back outdoors where Helen manfully caught it in a cloth and distributed it outside the pool cage minus about an inch of tail![clap][clap] I don’t know how many lives a lizard has, is it like a cat? It definitely lost one that day.[msnoo]
We were left to dispose of the redundant tail and hoover up a lot of sugar as Sue and picked up the sugar container, which although it was supposed to be empty had still contained some dregs!
Anyway, as usual, I digress.
We are back in the garage with the contents of the cupboard strewn around! It took us about 2 hours, the sweat dripping in to our eyes and off our noses, until we were left with only the towels, this led us to do a towel inventory, we replaced about a dozen that were not up to scratch and sifted through the old towels deciding
