I know this is an Orlando forum, and yes I do get to Orlando eventually, but via the long way round, and on my way meet up with a really lovely forum memeber and his wife...
New York day 2 – In the rain!
Goods night sleep – shattered from travelling – don’t really understand why sitting on a plane is so tiring though?[msnscared] – Up at 6.30am and made some tea whilst watching the news. Went down to the restaurant for breakfast, at $15.00 each for continental, we won’t be doing that every day[msnoo]. Got out around 8.30am and found out it was cold and raining[msnsad]. Went back to the hotel to buy an umbrella from the gift shop, set off, umbrella broke[msnmad], back to the hotel, set off again and realised we were walking in the wrong direction, turned around and walked back. Decided to take some photos, no battery in the camera[msncry], so back to the hotel and search from battery. Set off again, it’s now getting on for 10am and we haven’t got past the first 2 blocks, turned the corner and OMG there it all is, Times Square[msnoo], all the neon, flashing lights, taxis honking horns, steam coming out of the grids in the sidewalk, noise, bustle and busy busy busy.
We just walked around in a daze taking it all in[msnsmile2]. Wandered around Times Square and Broadway, but by this time was feeling cold and wet so went into Toys R Us – just because we were passing. As we entered there is a greeter and photographer – bit disneyish, and in the middle of the store a Ferris wheel! [msnwink] Got followed around by Geoffrey Giraffe and felt a little too like Disney – we wanted New York!
So off we go again down to Grand Central Station – on the way saw the Chrysler Building [msnsmile2] and the Empire State Building [msnsmile2] but shrouded in cloud and rain. The station is stunning and worth visiting, spent time people watching whilst sitting at the bar with a beer.....and then found a fantastic food market[msntongue] – In the station! It even sold “pet grass” (the legal kind) for all those pets that don’t have a garden.
The rain still hadn’t let up so we walked back to the hotel, collecting cheese cake and coffee on the way, and back to the room for a little snooze[msnwink]. A little later we set off again and ended up in Bloomingdales – this store is massive, it would take a week to get around – but at least it was warm and dry. Now Mr M is a carnivore, and would eat beef at every meal if possible[msnscared]. A little while ago we watched Heston Blumenthal present a programmed on his quest for the perfect burger, and he ended up in New York. Mr M drooled all the way through the programme[msnembarrased]. So after some Internet searching we tracked the burgers down. This is a secret now so shushhhh[msnwink] - If you want to try one of these burgers, you need to go to W 57th Street between6th and 7th Avenue. At this address you will find a Hotel Called the Parker Meridien – very posh! [msncool] Go into the lobby and against one wall is a full length curtain, look to the left hand side and you will see a gap, with a steady flow of people sneaking through. [msnwink] Go through here and you will find
