Trip Report May 2010.
Part 1 – New York New York.
After a pretty rough end to 2009, Mr M had some health issued that scared us to the core[msneek], but fingers crossed he’s on the road to recovery now, we decide life was too short so we would book a holiday[msnsmile2]. Now Mr M has a big birthday coming up so a lot of time was spent discussing various holiday options. Going to see a Grand Prix[msnscared], going to Italy to the home of Ferrari[msnscared], going to New York[msncool]....he eventually decided on New York (thank goodness – no cars!). After careful consideration we also agreed as we were flying long haul, we would combine the holiday with some time in Florida [msnsmile2] to relax after spending time in the Big Apple.
Booked the flights with Virgin in the winter sale, 11th May came round and off we went. Shuttle from Manchester airport to Heathrow then connecting flight to New York. Check in with BMI baby, and found Virgin hadn’t booked the flight through. Even though they had booked all the flights for me, they didn’t put them all on one ticket. Didn’t think this was a problem until she told me that I didn’t get the Virgin luggage allowance for this flight, I was 4kg over and the cost was £9.00 per kg [msnmad]. So I was that person on the floor in the airport moving all the shoes from the suitcases into the hand luggage[msncry]. She was really nice about it all, the luggage was still over but she let it go through. Arrived at Heathrow, because of Virgins cock up we had to collect the cases, at this point put all the shoes back in, and then walk, with all the luggage over to T3 and re check in again[msncry]! Found out the incoming flight was delayed so we had 3 hours to kill before takeoff. Went for a meal and some shopping and finally flew out at 5.30pm[msnsad]. Good flight, we were on Jersey Girl, only 4 years old, good back seat TV system and the flight was less than half full so had plenty of space to spread around[msnwink]. Got through Immigration and customs no bother, rang the car company we had pre booked the limousine with (excellent airport collection service, any one needs details send me a DM), car was with us in less than 10 mins and off we went to the hotel. Only a short drive but dazzled by the sights of the city at night. We had booked into the Belverdere Hotel on West 48th Street, just around the corner from Times Square. I took advice from Wendy[msnsmile2] (kitch50) and her recommendations were spot on. We couldn’t have wished for a better hotel, decent size rooms, good location and each room had a fridge, microwave and coffee maker. All for a very reasonable price. Hot shower and crashed into bed. [msnsmile2] Once I've resized my photos Ill add some in.
The first view of the City from our Bedroom window.
