Yes, we have always had our hand luggage weighed with Virgin. Had to repack and put stuff into our hold luggage several times. They seem the most strict of any airline we have travelled with. As hand luggage with wheels can weigh nearly 3kg there is not much you can put in it, particularly if you have a laptop! [msneek]

One advantage of BA over Virgin they have a size limit on case for hand luggage and as long as you can lift it into the overheads then you are fine plus you can take a laptop with you.

We flew at Christmas with US Airways. They were over £2500 cheaper than Virgin, BA, Delta etc They allow 18kg as hand luggage.
    I was going to book two extra cases but the man I spoke to at US said not to as 4 x 18kg = 72kg - 4 x 6kg (Virgin allowance)= 24kg. 72kg - 24kg = 48kg extra, in baggage allowance. [clap][clap][clap]

When I spoke to Virgin to confirm baggage allowances I was told "We have standardised our baggage allowances in line with other airlines. This will make it easier for our customers to understand"

When I said "Two bags at 23kg per passenger was very simple to me"
She replied "Not all our customers find it that simple sir"

I suggested that it was nothing more than a way to have a price increase under a different guise.
She said "No sir, it will make everything easier to understand"

I therefore asked as some other airlines allow cabin baggage to 18kg and Virgin have decided to follow other airlines to "Standardise" the system will I be OK to take 18kg in the cabin? "No sir at this time we have a cabin allowance of 6kg".

I asked "But you said you were doing this as other airlines had done this?" She then said " Would you like to speak to my line supervisor?"

Come on Virgin you "USED" to be the benchmark other airlines followed. As a loyal Virgin customer for over 15 years I now find myself looking at your competitors first, and for my last 3 out of 4 flights used others.

Does anybody know if you book a Continental flight, that uses Virgin as a codeshare, if you can use their hand luggage allowance. They have anallowance of 18kg as opposed to 6kg.

A codeshare is always subject to the terms and conditions of the operating airline so I'm afraid it will be Virgin's allowance.

We had our hand luggage weighed by Virgin in Feb. Hubby was over 6kg but it contained a laptop which is allowed as an extra, they made him remove it from his bag and gave him a nifty lttle bag to carry it in![msnsmile2]

Once through security it [msnsmile2]went back into his hand luggage[msnwink]
