Philadelphia

We've got a day and a half in Philadelphia on our way to Captiva in July this year. I haven't been there for 30 years and I'm looking forward to it.

Anybody got any advice on where to stay (we want a really good hotel), what should I absolutely not miss and where's a good place for the family to eat in the evening? Time being tight we want to make the most of it.

This being a Florida forum I guess advice will be limited, but anything will be appreciated.

One of the things I would recommend is going on the city tour. This is done on open top buses with excellent tour guides. You can get on & off when/wherever you like and spend time having a good look round tourist spots before picking up the tour on the next bus. If I remember correctly it was just under $30 per person (2009) and we thought it excellent value for money.

We really enjoyed our stop at the "Rocky Steps" where my hubby just had to run up to the top! Also the Liberty Bell was very interesting.

Its a lovely city (which you probably already know), the architecture is amazing.

Do a search before you go & find out where to get the best Philly cheese steak - yum!

We stayed near Phili and drove into the city from Trenton were we were staying and it was a very friendly place and they had promations stalls in the street were we got lots of things free food as well .
As said before the building were nice to see and we took plenty of pictures but do not have them to put on here .
We went to Lancaster the Amish county and that was good as well ,Do not know if you will have time to go there as only there for 2 days .

I don't know Philadelphia but if you're in an unfamiliar US city and there's a Four Seasons hotel there, you're very unlikely to find better.

Philadelphia has one and [name edited - an online travel opinion website] have recently declared it to be the 4th best hotel in the USA.
