    Credit Card - Main Driver

How strict are hire companies on the credit card being in the name of the main driver?

My husband will be the main driver but doesn't hold a credit card but I do, in my name, so thinking of hiring the car with me down as the main driver. Then if my husband drives out of the airport, will this set off alarm bells? We're planning on taking out the insurance which covers multi driver as I will do some driving but probably not much.

    Thanks

That would be a perfectly normal situation, one spouse as main driver - the other as a second driver.

If there is only the two of you, some companies(Budget) allow the spouse to drive even on the lower cover.

    Confirm with Roger.

We booked our car hire as part of a fly drive and we had this exact situation with Budget when we arrived in Orlando. The booking was in my husband's name with me as an additional driver but they wouldn't accept my husband's credit card because it was Santander and they hadn't heard of it (don't get me started on that one even though it was a Visa) and the only other credit card we had was in my name which they wouldn't accept because the booking wasn't in my name. So, we had to change the booking into my name so they would accept my credit card even though I wasn't intending to drive much. My husband then drove out of the car park and drove virtually the whole holiday with me driving ocasionally.

Yes, thats fine. The main thing is the card should be in the lead drivers name. So put it in your name, show your card, then your husband can still do all the driving, including the drive from the airport.
