It's not too late to do it, 2012 is a long way to go [msnwink]. I've done home swapping for years and it can sometimes be arranged in a matter of days if both parties have coinciding wishes.

I live not too far from Troon and Turnberry and when the golf Open comes around lots of people seem to be letting their homes for premium prices which finance and more a holiday for them while their home is used during the event.

It is not just fans / followers of golf that are looking for a home but I have known for some golfers taking a home rather than staying in a hotel. I believe that there is money to be made and there must be letting agents out there who specialise in this arrangement if you google for them.

I have never fancied the idea of swappiing my main home with it's personal stuff but have registered to swap my Florida home and have had a couple of times we almost proceeded but timing wasn't quite right. It's great if you can swap with a second home because swaps don't always have to be concurrent.

You register on a specialized website. I'm very happy with the one I'm using now, DM me if you want it.
2010 we're going to Northern Arizona in June, Florida in October, and Ireland we don't know when yet, but it's our partner's second home, so we're in no hurry to pick up a date. There's also something in the make with coastal Georgia.
Before that we've been to England, Belgium, Spain Canada and France. Have been offered Australia a couple of times but couldn't go.
Flexibility is definitely the key to make the most of the program in my opinion.

We have exchanged our home 3 times in the past. All were very successful and made new friends from it.
We had a 12th floor, beach front condo on Marco Island, a penthouse in Boca Raton and a fab stilt house on Pine Island.
I dont know how much it costs nowadays, but all you pay in memberhip to an oganisation such as: www.intervac.co.uk
All you do is choose your country, then expand your search criteria.
    Happy swapping
