Hi Ian
The GHDs that I had earlier this year worked in the USA fine. I have heard of some that don't work but they were the older models.

My sons girlfriend had some with her on our last trip. They did work, though took a long time to heat up and no where near as hot as normal. As the voltage is less there, you only need a plug adapter.
My daughter tells me exactly the same as Shirly D. They do work but take a lot longer to warm up and don't get as hot. She bought straightners (not GHD) whilst over there and takes them over with her when she comes over with us. I guess thats fine is you are goind to be a regular visitor but for the odd trip I guess you will be able to manage.
It all depends how old the GHDs are. The newer models come with dual voltage so work fine in US.
I have heard that some don't work, we bought some and left them in our villa for guests to use in case their don't work.
I use the MK4 GHD straighteners and they work brilliant in Florida - take a little longer to heat up but do work!
My wife had this problem. You're best bet is to go to Walmark and get some US ones.
