Urgent advice required on being ripped off

Hi all can any one help we are staying at the quality inn international drive and went to buy a new camcorder today and found that we have been ripped off by the store. Has anyone had this done to them and has some advice in dealing with such a case??? The store was on international drive and they have managed to charge us more than double what the camcorder was worth. We went back to the store to ask for a refund and got fobbed off by a slimey little shop owner saying no one forced us into buying and told us he would get the police if i continued to tell people walking in to the shop that he had charged us double. As we are not to sure of the laws here can anyone advise us in the best course of action.

Unfortunately, I am afraid I think the law is on the shopkeepers side. Frustrating though it is, he is right in saying that nobody forced you into the sale and it was up to you to do your research and find out how much you could have bought the camera for elsewhere. Unless it is faulty or they deliberately misled you by saying the camera has a much higher value than it really is then I don't think there is much you can do about it.

That is where many of these stores win, because they make it all seem sucha bargain that things are often bought on impulse and then perhaps regretted afterwards.

If they had charged you double what they said they were charging you then obviously you would have a case and would have recompense.

Sorry to hear that. I know it really can cast a cloud over the whole holiday can't it?

If it's a case of you discovering that the camcorder was available much cheaper elsewhere then maybe you don't have a case against the retailer but if the item is not as described or defective, you might be able to do something.

I know it's easier to say than to do but you are on holiday and I'd advise you just come to terms with what's happened and concentrate on enjoying yourself. Similar things have happened to me and I've come to the conclusion that the way to deal with it is to ensure that you learn the lesson for the future. Above all, don't let this incident be the main memory of your trip.

Put it down to experience and enjoy the rest of your holiday![msnsmile2]

And as soon as you come home and start reliving some of the memories on your camcorder (and especially when you look back in the future), with any luck you'll find the camera was expensive but the memories it creates will be priceless.

Did you pay the ticket price or did you pay double the ticket price??

I had a similar thing happen 10 years ago at Wonder Works on I-drive (although on a much smaller scale). Paid to get in say $120 and when i got home i found that they had charged $240 dollars. Immediately phoned my credit card company and was refunded half the amount.

If you have paid the ticket price and that happens to be double the worth then i'm afraid you will probably be stuck, likewise if he has keyed double into the credit card reader you may also be stuck as you have agreed to the amount. If he has run it through twice then you're covered!

Whatever the circumstances, try and put it out of your mind and enjoy your holiday. You will feel worse if you let it spoil things (that's easy to say and harder to do).

I had my wallet stolen in Universal on the same holiday 10 years ago and had to go to downtown Orlando to the police station, drove back to Universal, searched everywhere and then realised i was wasting my holiday so in the end just got a replacement card and forgot about it until returning home.

Sorry if i have been of no help, just trying to let you know that if it's beyond your control then don't let it spoil your time.

    Good luck!

hi guys there was no ticket price on the camcorder he went out back and got tyhe camcorder and told us it was new on the shelf, he said it retailed at$1299 but with the discounts and thew fact my card ( prepaid thomas cook card) started with a 4 then he could give us extra discount so we ended up paying $862 thinking we had a bargain!!!!

Sorry to hear this; hope you manage to resolve it.

It is always useful to ask advice on this forum for major purchases.

One of our guets bought an expensive camera in a specialist shop and then found it cheaper in Walmart (which often has the best deals)

Enjoy the rest of your holiday
