    Best exchange rate now!!

Firstly I apologise if this question is posed in the wrong part of the forums, but, Id really appreciate any guidance from all you astute forum members.

Ive tried doing a 'compare' type search to find the best £-$ rate available for hard cash but Ive found quite a difference offered from various companies, has anyone spotted any bargains lately that may be worth a punt?

    Many thanks

    Garry

I suspect the effort won't be worth it Garry. At best, you might find a rate a cent or so better than the rest and that sort of margin really makes almost no difference.

I agree Garry, unless you are intending to transfer lots of money over to a USA bank account, then it really isn't worth the hassle of trying to get an extra cent here and there. The likes of HiFx and Moneycorp etc. are the ones who offer the best rates but it is usually for money transfers.

We've just returned from Florida and before we went the Post Office were offering better tourist rates than travelex, M&S and Thomas Cook. I'm not sure what the rate is now but those are the 4 I usually check out.

    Thankyou all,

I'll check out the ones suggested and then go for the most convenient to save any wasted energy.

    Thanks once again

I have been checking M & S, Travelex, Tesco & Post Office daily since March (I'm such a sad person) I was surprised that M & S have been consistantly the worst. Travelex & The Post Office are normally the best, but as already stated you are only talking part of a cent normally (M & S can be 2cents lower.

For a comparison check comparetravelmony dot co dot uk

For the best xchange rates is pre-order from Crown Currency Exchange. As said earlier by blackhearts, excellent service. Money is delivered on the day you request. One word of caution...as the currency is delivered by Royal Mail Special Delivery, be aware that these posties may be taking strike action which may delay delivery of your cash.

Be also aware that some firms - like Crown Currency exchange - are not FSA registered.

Just check for yourself what safeguards/security they offer.

There have been several threads about this firm on MSE, and other forums, and I would stress that I have never seen or heard of any problems with that firm, despite the concerns expressed.

However unless things have changed(and there is no mention on their website of any FSA registration.) it appears that you hand money to a firm with no security for that money.

    This thread gives some info.
