    Visiting US in context

This is an interesting article by The Independent's travel editor Simon Calder:-

Typical journalistic rubbish. Only one flight was delayed and he makes out as though it is now the norm.

Anyone whose passport is likely to run out before end of 2005 could easily apply for a new one before October 2004 and then they would have no problems whatsoever, wouldn't need a visa and wouldn't have to get the new biometric passport until that one runs out.

Of course this type of hype sells newspapers. He doesn't care that it might worry people, as long as he sells his papers and gets to stay in his job.

I agree Carla, the worrying thing is how quick they are to knock the US about these things. Yes it is annoying, but only one flight has been affected, and surely we would all rather be there safely than not at all??

I am sure there will be a compromise until we have biometric passports up and running - which is meant to be summer 2005 - probably summer 2006 knowing the civil service.

At the end of the day those of us who enjoy visiting the US will not be put off by this.
