We've been twice recently and the hotels we have stayed in (Wynn, Venetian, Palazzo) have had free Valet parking for guests, so I'd expect the Mandalay to be the same.

Aparently it's a 5 hour drive to the sky-walk. We took a helicopter trip to the Grand Canyon which was great. Flew over Hoover Dam, Lake Mede and in to the Canyon. We hovered around the sky walk then flew below it towards the bottom.

I would have like to go on the sky walk. Almost 1 mile high with a glass floor, but Carolyn wasn't keen.

Wow Roger you have impressed me with your choice of hotels. I have been 5 times but the budget never stretches to the Wynn. Tell me have they finished the shopping complex near to the Wynn opposite Treasure Island. Last two times I was there it was just a building site

Yes, the Fashion Show Mall is now complete, much to the delight of Carolyn and our oldest daughter Charlotte.

    Thanks Roger,

When dropping the car off it will be on the way to the airport for the flight home. Is this depot close enough to the terminal to walk??

If it is then my god the Mandalay Bay and Vegas strip must be close to the airport!!

I do not think you can walk from the depot to the airport but Las Vegas airport has a dedicated transport hub and runs a shuttle from here to and from the airport. We found it worked well enough.

The whole strip is close to the airport, but the Mandalay is one of the closest hotels. You can certainly watch the planes land and take off from your room if you are facing that way.

See Google Maps screen shot below, with the Mandalay circled in blue. Don't worry about the proximity to the airport as the windows are so well sound-proofed you will barely hear the planes, if at all.

The car hire depot for the airport is just South of the image.

In July or August I would need the air conditioning in a car to get anywhere, when we went in August one year it was still 100f at midnight[msnsad] We went shopping in Albertsons and told the lady on the checkout we were waiting until after dark to go for a walk as it would be cooler, she said not to bother it would't make any differance.

Was I reading correctly that you intent to do LA & Hollywood in day from Vegas, the roads in LA are usually very busy, don't think you could do it in a day, might be wrong.

    Lyn,

Yes thinking of a really early start from Vegas in our Chrysler 300 from this site.

Seen websites showing itinerary for a 1 day tour of LA by car.

Yes it will be a long day but if we get to see the sights then we don't mind how long.

Plus a visit to the Michael Jackson shrine on the walk of fame and Neverland will be a one off chance so see it.

We went to LA from Vegas in April. On a very clear run it is just over 4 hours each way, so will be a long day. Then to get from one side of LA to the other can be around 1 hour each way, so I'd say to allow around 10 hours of driving in total. We stayed 3 days in LA so wasn't a problem.

I think I would do an overnighter in LA -you need to do a few of the sights, or you may aswell have looked at it onTV -get the Mandalay to book you a modest Hotel room in Anaheim [near Disney] as a base suggestion

We're doing an overnighter at the Grand Canyon so a night in L.A would take away our time in Vegas.

I know what you mean but we're trying to cram as much as possible into 7 days in Vegas.

I think we'll hit the highway at 4am and see what the day has in store, making sure we don't miss the day after in Vegas.

More back on topic, i can't wait to get what is hopefully going to be the Chrysler 300 with Dollar. Looks a lovely car when i see them in the UK and with the amount of miles we're looking to do, it should be a nice environment. I think we get to choose a specific car with the Dollar depot in Vegas so hopefully we will get a nice one.
