Dollar credit card swipe with gold

I have been looking at the car hire website and was interested that it said in the FAQ,s that if you rented with dollar and took the gold insurance then no credit car swipe was required, this was of interested us as we don’t have a credit card and didn’t want to leave a large cash deposit

This info has now been removed from the website in the last day or so, does this mean that this option has now gone?

The reason for the credit card swipe is if you incur any additional costs e.g. return a car late or not return it.

Roger will give more detail but the way car rental is set up it is difficult to see how you can rent without a credit/debit card.

Up to now, when booking Dollar on the Gold option and collecting from Orlando, Dollar did not take any card swipe on collection of the car as there were no payments due. If the car was returned late then on return they would ask you to go to the desk to pay the late fee.

Since the introduction of the small customer facility charge ($2.50 per day up to $12.50 total max) this mean that Dollar do need to collect a payment from each customer even if on the Gold option.

From feedback received, it has been possible to pay the $12.50 cash and still therefore not have to have a credit or debit card, but we did have 1 customer that was asked to pay this by card (which they did have, so it wasn't a problem). We don't know for sure if it was just a 1-off case due to a particular staff member, or if Dollar are changing their policy at MCO.

We are waiting for a definitive statement from Dollar to confirm the situation, so in the mean time we are being a little cautious in telling people they will not need a card.

Roger and anyone else, has there been any further feedback from Dollar in respect to this, card swipe or not carry on, using Dollar Gold ?

I suspect I've missed a posting about this, but what is this charge for?

Thanks Blott, hadn't realised this, however as I will be flying into Sanford this time, I presume this does not apply?

Hi Jane, just to let you know you can get a pre-paid credit card before you go, then you can load however much you want to put on it,

Some guests of ours didn't have a credit card. Hired from budget and they took $200 in cash which I didn't think was too bad.
