Rope drop

On our previous visits, prior to rope drop, we could enter Main Street for 30 mins to look around before entry to park at the top of Main Street.

Now there is an opening ceremony by the main entrance and railroad, does this mean we cannot enter Main Street until 8.50?

Do we have to stay and watch the ceremony, or can we wander around in Main Street as before and enter Magic Kingdom at the usual 9.00 rope drop at the top of Main Street?

We weren't allowed in to Main Street. There were cast members at the arches stopping you going in underneath where the train comes with the characters.
