I use my Nationwide Visa Debit card purely as an ATM card, I've never used it to buy anything but as it's a Visa then it shouldn't be a problem. When we've used our credit card and I've compared the statements I've found that items bought on the same day with the credit card has a slighty higher exchange rate.

I prefer to have a supply of cash and rarely use T/C's.

As a guide to spending we allow $50 a day on food and $100 a day on spending per person. I load our Nationwide Flex with enough to cover this calculation and always have money left in the account at the end of the holiday.

I know that T/C's can be held over for the next trip and I do have a small supply left over from over 5 years ago.

We've been using this new method for years now and it works for us.

Many thanks for your replies. I'm still not decided what to do but wondered if anyone had any experience of this sort of thing?

It's basically a mastercard that can be pre-loaded with your holiday money.

I was considering putting half or so of my holiday month into something like this which I could use in supermakets, shops & restauraunts and then getting the rest in cash to use for daily spends.
