Our kids enjoy the waves and we typically head for Melbourne Beach.

We went to Daytona (by accident[msnembarrased]) when it was spring break and drove along the beach. Lovely wide beach and very busy and very breezy with a choppy sea.

We went to Clearwater (on purpose[msnsmile2]) at a quieter time of year and it was like being on the Baywatch set but with less people there. The sea was calmer and there was no wind at all. The beach itself is not as wide as Daytona but wide enough but the ride over the Causeways to get there are brilliant.

I would say Clearwater is better if you have younger children but both are stunning.

We also went to Daytona, and parked on the beach. It was great fun....until we came to go home. As my husband tried to reverse off the beach we sank further and further into the sand and all attempts to escape failed. Sand flew everywhere and the car sank deeper and deeper! Oh how embarassing!

Thank goodness an American came to our aid and took over the wheel. With what seemed great ease he drove the car out of the sand for us. Were we thankful! Especially as the tide was coming in!

We have just go back from a day at the gulf.

We started off at clearwater, which was really nice, busy sort of as it is spring break for some states. Had a good long stroll along it. they are doing fesitivites before sunset on the pier as well, but we had planned to go further on down the coast to see madeira and treasure island, stopped off just after lunch time at madeira and had a bite to eat on the boardwalk at Johns Pass, again it was busy being lunchtime and spring break, but had a lovely buffalo chicken salad and crab cake sandwich. Before finally heading off home, and with all that sea air am totally exhausted.
