Not really Katys Grandad, we have combination locks and padlocks, I think they would look for easier pickings - like unlocked cases

Maybe that's what they want you to think![msnsmile2][msnsmile2]

Surely if you leave your cases unlocked you are vunerable to drug trafficers using your luggage and you would not have a leg to stand on if your case was found with drugs in. We always lock ours and stay with them while security check them so we can open them if they wish to see inside. This has never been a problem for us. Caught carrying someone elses drugs would be and that is a common way for dealers to ship their drugs around the world. In Europe a lot of people seal their cases completely in cellophane wrap to avoid this happening. They do it at the airports for a small charge. I used to think that was to keep the luggqge dry, but not so. It is to avoid luggage being tampered with. Of course bombs could also be put in luggage that is not locked. I know most people think they take care of their luggage but look how easily pick pockets get away with it. These drug trafficers and terrorists are experts at planting their wares.

Orlando and Tampa airports do their security checks airside after you have checked your bags in. For them to put things in your bags there, means they would have had to take them through security themselves in the first place, so it is not something I worry about.

We use cable ties and leave spare in the zip pocket at the front

My advice would be to leave them unlocked but make sure you are carrying all valuables in your hand luggage.

We kept loosing TSA approved locks when our cases were opened. Like Clare we decided they were a waste of money and use plastic cable ties to secure our suitcases. Since using them we have not once had our cases opened.

We too have lost TSA locks to US customs and like Mo we use cable ties on the return leg,not had a case opened since. We now just use the old padlocks on the outward trip.

    Thanks for the advice.
Think I will use cable ties. At least then I will feel the bags are secure and it will be a lot cheaper to lose a cable tie than a padlock!

Was just wondering if it was safe enough to leave them unlocked if doing twilight check in at Gatwick? It's ok being asked if the bags have been left unattended, but who know's what happens to them once they have been handed over at the airport. Anyone got any insight into where the bags get put overnight?
