    Captain "Sully" Sullenberger

How do I make sure we get the above to fly us to the states in June???

    An absolute star.

Clearly the first thing would be he would need to change employer to Virgin Atlantic,

I'm sure he could just about command any salary he asked for if he did.

(PS If you don't know what I'm talking about just Google - Airbus Hudson River...........[msnwink]

The thought comes to mind when you see them on the wing { walking on water } ,The back up of the ferries and other boats was awsome and only took 40 mins to get thenm all off and so cold .
He must have been a cool person to have to make his mind up so quick .

I don't think he had many options open to him!

    Still superb skill.

Robert the pilot has his own training company and was trained for emergency just like this they knew they had a problem with birds ,So does Manchester were we come from and we go to the outside viewing platforms by the airport and they have security jeeps riding round all day to try and keep them at bay .
May be we can learn from his long flying experence in the future .

Not forgetting that on a modern aircraft the flight crew are a team. The first officer sadly seems to have been left out of the news and I'm sure he had just as much input into this fantastic piece of airmanship. So Jeffrey Skiles, we salute you also!

I'd like to think that the vast majority of professional pilots would have acted the same way and are trained to do so. This one did brilliantly but such is the way of these things, I suspect that if it hadn't gone quite so well somebody would be pointing their finger at him just now.

The BA pilot who crash-landed the 777 at Heathrow a while ago has had a dreadful time since even though he's been shown to be completely blameless.

There are a lot of vested interests who are too happy to blame pilot error if they can get away with it.

The classic was Captain James Thain the pilot of the Man Utd Munich crash way back in 1958.

He was accused of taking off without de-icing the wings. It took a long time before he was cleared. It was found that the build-up of slush on the runway had prevented the plane taking-off.

The Black Box has gone some way toward providing more information.

They said that the passengers would not have lasted long in the freezing water if they had to ditch, so he did an excllent job.

In the UK he would have got at least an MBE; but NY give him/them the keys!
