I have read a lot about this diet liz I down loaded Kate Harrison's book onto mu kindle last week and have started reading it and lots of people at work are using my fitness pal. I think this is a diet that could work for me it cuts certainly working for you well done !

I think I will head to bed now and read more of it and will give it a whirl.

Thanks for the advice everybody xxx

in recent years I have only managed to stick to the diet for a couple of weeks and then given up.
well, for the first time in possibly 10 years I have started a diet that I have been able to stick to. I started the 5:2 diet 5 weeks ago and have lost 12lbs so far. It 's early days yet but it really doesn't feel like a diet, sure, the 500 calorie days are hard but it's no different to starving for the dentist or for an operation and next day you can eat exactly what you like as you never do your two fast days together. This week I had an went out for dinner, I had 2 G&T's half a bottle of wine a starter a main and a dessert plus I had an argument with abox of Thorntons chocolates two days earlier and I still lost 3llbs........it's amazing!

The proven health benefits are what swayed it for me especially the bit about removing the fat stores around the heart and reducing the risks of colon cancer, Alzheimer's and prostate cancer ( hubby's doing it as well!)
im not saying its right for everyone and if something else is working why change the formula, but if like me you can't stick to a diet for very long or can't give up naughty things it may just work for you.
The book by Dr Michael Mosley is called The Fasting Diet.......this is the book on which the original Horizon programme was based, I have yet to read it but I have read the 5:2 diet by Kate Harrison, she recommends the use of the app My Fitness Pal which I wouldn't be without and I would recommend reading her book about finding ways the diet would work best for you.

This is my 3rd time with SW and by some strange magic, I seem to have been able to stay in or below my target since last August. I still go to the class and stay most weeks which I think has helped me enormously. I don't do cooking, but have picked up several very easy things I can make myself quickly...magic pancakes...yummy. Our Group Leader also started a FB page for her members and there are always lots of people to give everyone encouragement. It seems to be working for the time being!!!

Good luck Pam, but until you really really get 'in the mindset' and stick with the plan - whatever it may be - you will keep putting it off. You certainly carry 17 stone very well!!!! Maybe I should not be saying that and encouraging you not to do anything! People always say I don't look overweight but I am 5' 0" and my target was 11st.10lbs. I should have a target a lot lower, but it has never worked before and I am more than happy with how I am now. I did go below target to 11st.4lbs and it was suggested I go to a lower target. However they only go down in 7lb increments. Yes, I was almost there, but life would have been to stressful and it would have been too much pressure so I paid for a couple of weeks whilst I added a few pounds to get within the 3lb of target!!! Crazy really!!!

Good luck Pam, it doesn't matter what diet / food plan etc you follow, it has to be one that is easy to live with, but most importantly your head has to be in the right place or it just doesn't work.
DH's birthday today so had large piece of carrot cake for tea only 2 hours before being weighed!! Also been a little off plan so no surprise for a +.5lb this pm, and also just got back from chinese to celebrate DH's birthday.
So providing my head is back in the right place from tomorrow I will be back on track ... or not!! Of course also completely forgotten lunch out on sunday with the gals who are taking us out to celebrate their father's birthday.
Onwards and downwards ... up and down like a yoyo. Must remember have black tie supper event 25 March, however my long dress is now loose on me, LBD a snug fit, so if I do lose enough to make a difference it's going to be the LBD, but that needs a jacket. It's nice to go down sizes but isn't half expensive, have kept the best items to be altered by a dressmaker when finally hit target.
So back to the week in hand, some planning is required before it all goes to pot!

Pamela you don't look 17 stone, you carry your weight extremely well.I realise that doesn't help you to be motivated.
From my own experience it doesn't matter what diet you choose you need to be in the right frame of mind even then its not easy.

I have tried every diet you can imagine Slimming World, Weight Watchers, appetite suppressant capsules. Atkins Diet, Rosemary Connoly fab diet, cabbage diet to name a few.
Everytime the weight had gone back on plus more.

This time, nice and slow has worked for me. I have no set time if it takes me three years or longer so be it. I guess my weight will always be an issue. I am hoping this time I have learned how to keep it under control only time will tell.

Well done Liz you are doing great, nothing like your clothes being slack when you put them on
Maybe in a few months when we have more confidence we can post some before and after pictures.

For me Pam, the key has been trying to get round the 500 calorie days.
When I started I tried to have 2 or 3 small meals throughout the day but " Breakfast" just triggerred me to want more, so now I only have drinks until the evening by which time I usually have about 450 cals left for a decent meal which works for me. I know loads of people who cant starve throughout the day and have their 550 cals spread out, but its horses for courses.

i really need to up the exercise ante but my left knee is chrionically painful and swimming is probably the best thing for me........sound like a trip to florida is overdue!

Good luck everyone with whatever you do I shall be watching all your progress. Isnt it funny when you are trying to loose weight everyone elses diets beccome interesting? I am even reading fictional novels about dieting and have just read The Desperate Brides Diet Club! It was fun, easy to read and strangely motivating! How sad is that?[msneek]

Well it is weigh in morning. I never have breakfast before I weigh at noon. Today, being Valentine's Day, my dear husband comes trotting into the bedroom with a tray. Green tea, Oats so Simple, and a flower picked from outside in a lovely vase!! How romantic is that after 32 years...dear of him.[clap] Unfortunately the Oats so Simple had to be eaten by him!!! Hope it was worth it when I step on the scales later!!!

Good lucK Sandra. I am sure you will be fine you are in the zone!

I have always been told that when on a diet you should always start with a good breakfast. For me personally it doesnt work. Like you Liz the longer I can go without food the better chance I have of not cheating.

I do have drinks to keep me going ,I may have a banana and an apple around 1-00pm. Then I can save most of my calorie allowance to the early evening . I try not to eat sfter 7-00pm but this depends what I am doing that day.

The only downside for me is sometimes if I have been out most of the day I am so hungry when I arrive home I am tempted to grab something to eat rather than wait to prepare something healthy for my main meal.

Thanks everybody! and good luck Sandra !

I think I will definitely try the 5:2 diet because I can go quite a long time without eating. Barbara I'm the same as you
if I have breakfast it makes me hungry all day! Also I often don't get home from work until 6.30 - 7.00pm so will have
to be very organised otherwise I will grab something quick and calorie laden!
