stopovers with delta

hi all,
im looking at delta airlines, and see one option for a flight is quite a long stop for a change in JFK, (21 hours) do they allow you to leave the airport in this time? sounds a silly question, but i have no idea about legalities of it all! would be a good quick way to take in the atmosphere, hubby wants to just see it, and is not bothered of spending a holiday there so would have been a good oppertunity...

also, with airlines (looking at delta and virgin) the seatback tv on long haul, is this usual? gaurenteed? you dont know until you get there or can we find in advance if we have to take more entertinment for the flight?

A 21 hour layover will involve an overnight hotel stay unless you want to sleep in the airport - which I would definitely not recommend.

Once you have cleared immigration and customs from the transatlantic flight, you're free to whatever you want provided you're back in time for the domestic segment.

JFK isn't located in the best of areas and many of the airport hotels aren't places you'd want to be in for 20 hours. You certainly have time to go into Manhattan and stay there but New York hotels have become very expensive over the last couple of years. Whether you want to spend that money is a decision for you but it might seem an opportunity lost if you didn't take it. You could do/see quite a lot in 21 hours.

I have done a stop over with Delta but it was only 2 hours. There are some hotels near JFK but beware of going too cheap, they can be really basic

Delta seem to be doing the stay over more now as they cut back on internal flights so there are not as many going into orlando .
We flew this time with Virgin because of the same reason as not worth one night either in JFK or ALANTA .
