    Depends on what you mean by good :-)
    It's the cheapest Nikon DSLR you can get (approx £240 with kit lens at the mo) but quite a few steps above a normal point and shoot. That's not to say you can't get really good pics out of a P&S as in all the right conditions as you can. Take away some of those 'right' conditions however and then the DSLR shows it's muscle.

    I also shoot in RAW which means I get the picture as the cameras sensor saw it and I then decide if I want more vivid colours, higher contrast, sharper lines etc on the laptop when 'post processing' them. A bit like the modern equivalent of the darkroom I guess.

    You can set the camera to do it's own sharpening, contrast, etc and there is also a full auto mode but where is the fun in that :-)
